Our History
Nestled in the heart of Bridlington, The Kings Arms has been a cherished part of the town’s history for generations. Originally established in the 19th century, the pub has long been a gathering place for locals, fishermen, and travellers seeking good company, hearty food, and a proper pint.
Over the years, The Kings Arms has seen Bridlington grow and change — from a bustling fishing port to a beloved seaside destination — yet it’s remained true to its roots: a traditional British pub with a friendly welcome for everyone.
Following careful restoration and modern touches, the pub today blends its classic charm with a fresh, comfortable atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by for a meal with family, enjoying live music, or simply relaxing by the bar, you’re part of a story that’s been brewing for over a century.
At The Kings Arms, it’s more than just a pint — it’s a piece of Bridlington history.
The Kings Arms is listed uner “Inns & Taverns” in a local directory dated 1851, confirming its long-standing presence in Bridlington’s social and commercial life. The historic photographs below were kindly provided by the Lords Feoffees and the Bayle Museum.
Picture 2 is undated but appears more recent, likely taken after the shop front was added at 28 King Street. The Kings Arms was a Tetley’s pub when both photographs were taken, with records of payments from Tetley & Son in 1937–38, and leases with Tetley in the 1960s and Allied Breweries in the 1970s. The pub has operated as a Free House since at least 1992, continuing its long tradition of hospitality in the heart of Bridlington.
